If you would have told me a year ago that I would be able to go on a trip of a lifetime to France, I wouldn’t have believed you. I am so excited and feel so privileged to be able to travel to France for my spring break, an opportunity many will never get to experience. This trip is a chance for me to discover more about myself and to most importantly discover and explore another country. I believe studying abroad is important in learning about other cultures in this beautiful world we live in. Going to France will allow me to become more open to new ideas and beliefs. As this will be my first time traveling to Europe, I can’t wait to see what France has to offer!

I grew up on a Beef and Cash Crop farm just 15 miles north of Canandaigua and have a love for the outdoors, animals, and most of all agriculture. I have been a member of the Woodsmen’s Team for four years now. Starting at Cobleskill and now here at Finger Lakes, training through the college’s team, it has become a favorite sport of mine. I Enjoy drawing and Art History which I hope I can discover some historical pieces while traveling through France. I joined this adventure to France to broaden my horizons experience a whole different culture other than my own. I felt it was a chance for any young person like me to immerse myself in another world, and take on an experience like no other; and that is exactly what I plan to do.

When I saw “France Study Abroad” listed as a course at FLCC I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know that this opportunity was out there and I was so excited to take it. My interest in France began when I started taking French in school. Not only is the language beautiful but the culture and the land itself is so unique. It is fascinating to think that the culture and the buildings in France are hundreds if not thousands of years older than the United States and contain so much more history. I never thought I would actually get to go to France, especially at this age, and I think it will continue to seem unreal until I get there.

My ultimate goal from studying abroad is to develop cultural awareness. Personally, I feel that from living in the United States for most of my life, I have taken the values, stories, and history and drawn from that in my writing. By living and studying abroad, I hope to take the positive aspects from that experience and integrate them into my life. As a student of writing, new people and surroundings will not only broaden my perspective of life, but enrich my future work.
