Modern Languages @ FLCC: France, 2018
I am currently a business major and planning on going into human resources after I graduate. Going into college I was looking forward to all of the new experiences I would have and all of the new people that I was going to meet. Going to France has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to travel to Europe and experience the different culture and way of living there. Having the experience of traveling and studying abroad can really help me be more diverse and being put into situations that I would not be put into back home will only expand my horizons. I have never been out of the country before and I have never been anywhere where English was not the first language. I have been saving up money to study abroad and once the opportunity to study in France presented itself I knew that I had to go. I am really looking forward to this once in a lifetime experience of traveling to France and being able to experience a country that some people dream about visiting!

Traveling has always been a dream of mine, but something I never thought would happen. I love adventures but something this big was beyond my wildest dreams. This will be my first time out of the United States, and I’m excited and terrified! If you had told me a year ago that I would be getting a degree and going to France I would have laughed. I’m a first-generation college student, and I dropped out of school to work when I was sixteen. College was so foreign and scary, I vowed I’d never go. With the encouragement of my best friend and boyfriend somehow I found myself in Dr. Brown’s history class last fall. That is where I heard about study abroad France. I was dreamily telling my sister about the trip and she wondered “well, why don’t you go?”, and that’s how I ended up here. I’m currently in FLCC’s Early Childhood Education program, and I hope to transfer and complete my masters in teaching. I haven’t seen much of the world yet, but I love learning, and I’m so excited to experience another culture and see places I’ve read about in books. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities that have been presented here at FLCC.

History / French @ SUNY Fredonia
Modern Languages @ FLCC: France, 2018
Currently, I am an undergraduate student at SUNY Fredonia, dual majoring in History and French, with an additional minor in rhetoric. These studies are in pursuit of a law degree, after which I intend to enlist in the United States Military as a JAG. (Essentially, a military lawyer.) I enjoy anything that provides me with a challenge, a sense of achievement, and gives concrete evidence of a positive impact upon either myself, others, or society. To name a few, my “hobbies” include: martial arts, race car driving, hiking, hunting, and studying (for some odd reason). I am also actively involved in my university’s Mock Trial team. While a cliché, the trip did strike me as a “once in a life time” opportunity. As with everyone, Father Time has been playing his cruel trick on me, and I realized that as time goes on opportunities like this begin to dwindle. Also, on more of a practical note, fluency and foreign cultural experience will aid me tremendously in my anticipated military career. I am looking forward to the trip, and to hopefully take all this opportunity can offer.

Modern Languages @ FLCC: France, 2018
Throughout my time at Finger Lakes Community College I have pursued the prospect of traveling abroad. Indeed, I have always wanted to explore the world, but the right occasion had not presented itself.I am currently in my fourth and final semester at FLCC. Once I graduate this spring, I plan on transferring to a four-year college to pursue a major in history. I was inspired to attend this excursion because of a deep interest in European culture and the desire to immerse myself into it. The customs, history, music, food, and architecture are all motivators for my travel to France.I enjoy all the aspects of travel, including flying, planning, and packing. I’m excited to participate in this amazing opportunity, which I believe will grant me insights into the culture and myself.

Liberal Arts / French @ FLCC
Modern Languages @ FLCC: France, 2018
I am a Liberal Arts major doing the French track, but I like to say I’m a French major because it sounds cooler. After FLCC, I want to either continue my education at SUNY Geneseo or pursue a career in the film industry (mainly as a sound man/tech). I love baking, fashion (design and wear), and I very much enjoy painting. My biggest inspirations are Claude Monet, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pierre Hermé. I am joining FLCC on the France trip because for the last three years, before I was even a student here, I have been applying to go on the trip. Sadly, it has never had enough people so I haven’t been able to go yet. Also, French has been one of my biggest passions for the past 6 years, I have taken it every semester since 7th grade and have the entire Harry Potter series in French. One of my biggest life goals is either to teach French at the high school level or teach English in a French speaking country. To me, this trip is not just an amazing opportunity to see another country, it’s an experience I’ve been dreaming of for years and years.

I decided to join in on this study abroad course because I wanted to try something new. I typically stay in my bubble and would never even think of doing something as crazy as leaving the country with people I just met. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone for a change and explore / travel. I’m also undecided on what I may want to do in my future as I’m studying in liberal arts. Maybe going on this trip could help me mentally narrow down my choices. I took a few classes of French in high school which made me become interested in the language, history, and culture. I’ve always dreamt of going to Paris as a kid and I can’t believe that’s going to happen in a few weeks and while I’m still young. I’m very excited to see the beauty of France. My great-grandmother was from France and came to America shortly after WW2. She would often speak of France and how life was for her there. This is what also inspired me to go and to see with my own eyes what she was telling me about. This is an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait for it to begin.

My name is Brent, I am a student attending FLCC. I’m an AA Liberal Arts major who is currently going through their second semester. My interests are gaming (WoW in particular), traveling, hiking, camping, working out, and education. I’ve traveled all over the U.S (about 25 different states), but, as far as leaving the country is concerned, I’ve only traveled just across the border into Canada. I’m joining FLCC in France because it presents me with an incredible opportunity to travel to a different country and immerse myself in their culture.

My name is Alaina Steensma and i am a liberal arts major here at FLCC. in my free time i enjoy relaxing, hiking, and trying new things (things as in food). i was motivated to join this trip because i was really interested in going last year, however i had missed the deadline to join. the opportunity to go to France was really something that stuck out to me, because i feel as if a lot of the time people don’t travel when they’re older because life often gets in the way, theres always something else that need to get done.
