Travel scares some people. I won’t deny the fact, but I also know that knowledge conquers fear.
One of the things that I find difficult to understand is the idea of staying in one place forever. I have met countless people who are born and raised in a small town, go to school in that same town, get a job, and then find themselves in staying in that same place for the rest of their lives. To them, that relatively tiny patch of land will be all that they ever experience in life. Furthermore, they remain content in not knowing anything outside of the cultural bubble that they have constructed. They will never move, they will never travel, even if the opportunities are far gone and out of reach. The concept of leaving their comfort-bubble scares them into complacency.
On the other hand, I have other friends who I consider the international elite. They received the same degrees in education, business, law, medicine, architecture, however they added languages and study abroad experiences to their education. The only thing that made these people different was the opportunity to study in other countries and work with people from around the world in their own language. These same people worry little about the economy in New York, the Northeast US, or even in the United States as a whole. They have offers stacking up from Japan, China, Brazil, South Korea, Germany, and so on. They exude the confidence in knowing that they can do anything they want, anywhere that they choose, and they do so with no fear.
So … how do these people tie in with this article about peaceful places to travel? All of these people, at one point or another, made the decision to throw caution to the wind and venture out into the world. They conquered fear and tried something new.
The number one concern that we address when preparing study abroad programs for our students is safety. And this fear for our idea of safety stops people from leaving their bubbles in the United States. However, Expatify.com gives us a great look at countries that are – at least on a nationwide level – the safest places in the world to travel. No strife, no war, no battlegrounds, no military, no worries!
Go experience the most peaceful places on the planet! Any of these countries would be the perfect start to your adventures around the world!
