Aero: Shelby Seeley – Costa Rica 2013 – My Expectations
Aero: Shelby Seeley – Costa Rica 2013 – My Expectations
I have so many expectations for Costa Rica! It will be my first time our of the country minus one trip to Canada. I expect there to be many differences in Costa Rica compared to my life in the U.S. I am excited to experience these differences hands on.
Based on information that I have already been given, I expect living conditions to be similar to what I am used to. This would include regular bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms. I do not expect one room houses nor huge mansions. I am pretty sure that the living arrangements will be more than satisfactory but I would not mind if they were not. It is all about the adventure for me.
The world has become so technological that I doubt Costa Rica is much different. The Internet is everywhere and is the way the world communicates so I guess I am expecting to see coffee houses or cafes with wifi. I do no know if cell phones are as popular in Costa Rica as they are in the U.S. so I am interested to see that part of the culture.
Where classes are concerned I really do not know what to expect. I imagine that we will go over situations and how to tackle them in Spanish. I bet we will be going over words and phrases, even local folklore. I am really looking forward to the classes no matter what they include because I miss speaking and listening to the Spanish language. Living in a world without English as the main language is the main thing I am excited/nervous about! Being the minority is something that I have rarely experienced. Although I am rusty with my Spanish I am confident that I will be able to get by with my host family and other Costa Ricans.
One thing that I am really looking forward to is the food! I will eat pretty much anything and I cannot wait to test the traditional and nontraditional foods of Costa Rica. I expect to be surprised with some of the foods available but I am going to do my best to try anything and everything available to me. Most of all I expect this to be an adventure of a lifetime!
