Aero: Kelsey Hamilton – France 2014 – My Expectations
Growing up in the small town life, experiencing culture can be rare, but for me I got lucky. I grew up around Irish and Hispanic cultures, enjoying the language, food, and lifestyles not realizing how having those experiences would open my mind, and encourage me to see what was outside the small town life. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the small town, but to me it’s even better to experience the life of other cultures and their way of life.
When I considered studying abroad I never thought France, I always considered studying the cultures of my own ethnicity, going to Ireland or Argentina. Then studying Art History through school, and seeing the beauty of countries such as Italy, and France I decided maybe I should consider spreading my horizons outside of my comfort zone and see something I would never expect or forget. The day I heard about the Flcc Study Abroad Program to France, I knew that was something I wanted to experience, and see to educate and culture myself through travel.
Gaining the experience of travel is something everyone should etch into his or her stone, Weather it is across the state or country. But the travel that takes you around the world, away from your comfort zone; that is the travel that can chance a way of life, and a closed mind to an open one. It’s the beauty of travel; gaining experiences and making your senses tingle for more, and that is what I plan to do. I expect living with a French Family will be different, maybe a bit calmer than that of an American lifestyle. Fashion to be trendier, food to be rich with flavor, streets to be older, and buildings to be full of history. Then with every new idea, food, fashion, or lifestyle I come upon to take that home with me, learn from it all, and share my experiences with others to encourage them to etch their stones too. Living life with a closed mind keeps your senses alive, but opening your mind and letting them tingle for something new, that something everyone should attempt to experience, and this trip will be the beginning of one of many for me.
