All of my prior travelling experiences to this trip have been within the U.S. , and I was excited to finally become an international traveler. I was prepared and maybe even a little excited to undertake all of the different things that come with that, like the initial airport trip. I had heard an abundance of stories and warnings and tips for going through airport security, and even though I was ready for the worst, my venture to Costa Rica was very mellow and unexciting. I know this isn’t the case every time, and I probably got lucky. The most invasive thing that happened was having the left side of my body patted down. Honestly, packing for the trip gave me much more stress than my airport and flying experience did. I tend to be a very heavy packer and I really tried to reign myself in for this trip, something I’m proud to say I think I was successful at.
I was really anticipating the travels we would have within Costa Rica as well. Although some are not always fond of long car rides, the bus rides we went on while we were there I loved. Having music to listen to definitely helped, but the surrounding pretty areas we passed through also made it a joy. When we were in Alajuela, it was fun being able to become acquainted with various places around town, and starting to remember where things were without a map. I’m someone who suffers from navigational cluelessness and every correct turn or memorized street was a small personal victory. The times in the evenings when my housemates and I took taxis were always quick and simple. Eventually we saved to memory which streets had the most taxis always lined up, and the process of getting one was not only easy, but the price was astronomically lower than what it is here to take one. I suppose the key words to sum up all of my travel experiences while there would be “pleasant” and “easy.” Even the trip back to the U.S. which I was told would be plagued with customs and security and general uneasiness went by incredibly smooth. We may have just gotten lucky, but I will always have nice associations in terms of my travel experiences to, within, and from Costa Rica.
