Aero: Kelly Bailey – Costa Rica 2016 – My Expectations
…
As I look upon my future trip to Costa Rica, I’m nervous about living with the host family. I’m excited to embrace another culture, yet I’m scared to accidentally offend my host family. The hope is to be as respectful as I possibly can without ignoring my identity as an American.

In being in Costa Rica I am apprehensive about having to live with less technology then I am used to. I may have my phone, but my friends, family, and emergency assistance are no longer just a txt or call away. Through this experience I hope to become more flexible and independent by accepting the fact I cannot control everything or have continuous contact with the those closest to me. For food I am expecting to eat a lot of rice, beans, and chicken. All of which I love, but I am hoping to try some local foods. I am hoping to eat some new and something not available in the United States. Rainforests, waterfalls, and volcanos are going to be incredible to see. I can’t fathom how cool it is going to be! It will be unreal to be standing right next to a volcano. I’m so excited to explore Costa Rica with some amazing and adventurous people. In addition, I hope to learn about the history of the Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and how these cultures were formed. Through this experience I expect to become more culturally aware and better at adapting to diverse environments.
