Have you ever wished to become like the greats of the world? You may have asked yourself this question many times, but have you ever asked yourself what the greats do in order to be considered one of the greats? Nobody is born with a perfect knowledge of everything, that’s a given. But something that all people are born with is the capacity to learn. As we learn and grow we find new ways to help us continue learning and growing, it’s all part of this process called life. But according to this article, some people know how to do life better than most. This article aims to educate us in how we can become more like the greats by following what is called the “5 Hour Rule.” The 5-hour rule involves spending five hours a week, or one hour each weekday, focused on deliberate learning.

[At the age of 10, Benjamin Franklin left formal schooling to become an apprentice to his father. As a teenager, he showed no particular talent or aptitude aside from his love of books.
When he died a little over half a century later, he was America’s most respected statesman, its most famous inventor, a prolific author, and a successful entrepreneur.] – Inc.

The technique has been used by successful people around the world. Some of the greats who have benefited from the 5-hour rule are; Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Mark Zuckerberg. This simple rule can help you transform you from ordinary to successful. Now don’t be fooled, there is no magic here being used. In order to get the results you are looking for you need to be constantly engaged in what your 5-hour activity will consist of. For example, Oprah Winfrey decided to read while Mark Zuckerberg likes to reflect, but ultimately you choose which you feel comfortable with most. Reading: The wide availability of eBooks makes reading on almost any topic possible wherever you are. All highly successful people read, and if you think about it, it is the most convenient and easy way to learn. Why do you think your professors always give you so many reading assignments? Bill Gates said that he reads 50 books a year, telling the whole world the easiest way of how he obtains his knowledge. He has revealed the not so secret secret to the whole world, and if he can be that successful from reading, then so can we.

Reflection: This is in my opinion the most important step in this 5-hour process. Reflection is the most vital part of learning new things. Trying to absorb too much information without sitting and pondering on it can make you feel overwhelmed. We are the only ones preventing ourselves from picking up new skills. It’s important that the reflection time is done structurally, or if will be easy to get distracted. If you keep a journal, it will allow you to remember what you learned and look back on it in the future.

Experimentation: If you don’t experiment, you get nowhere. It is necessary you you set apart a time each week to test out new theories or ideas. It is arguable that the most successful products in the world have come about because of in depth experimentation. The mind will spark with innovations that even if are failures will spark to new ideas and creativity that you would have never learned if you didn’t experiment.
