Aero: Brianna Jackson – Costa Rica 2016 – My Expectations
…
I’ve never been to a foreign country before, so I’m very excited about this trip. It’s also a little nerve wracking as well. When we arrive in Costa Rica I’m sure I’ll be a little overwhelmed with everything. I’m most nervous about living with a host family because I’ve never lived with such a large group before. I am looking forward to experiencing their culture though, and having a nice dinner together with my host family. I would also say that I am particularly nervous about speaking the native language. It’s been a while since I’ve have any Spanish lessons, so I really don’t want to be confused, or say the wrong things. I look forward to the classes because they’ll help with that language barrier.

Technology wise I’m not too concerned. We as Americans spend so much time with our phones and laptops, so I think this trip will be a good opportunity to take a break from all the technology and really enjoy Costa Rica. As long as I can contact home from time to time, I’m not too worried.
I also expect the food to be radically different than what I’m used to. I’m excited to have the chance to try meals that I wouldn’t usually eat at home. I’m not usually to adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, but it’ll be a great opportunity for me to do so there.
Overall, I’m looking forward to this experience. It’s going to be a major shift from what I’m used to, and I hope to make the best of it. I’m sure I’ll enjoy all that Costa Rica, and our host families have to offer, and I’m looking forward to exploring places like the volcanoes, beaches, and forests. It’ll be a great learning experience.
