Aero: Tiffany Bane – Costa Rica 2016 – City Life

The city of Alajuela is very different from the United States. Within the Central Park is the Cathedral, and most cities in Latin America are built with the church facing east and the city built around it. There are several churches in Alajuela and each one had a service when we saw it. In the United States, cities are not built around churches and cathedrals, and do not seem as organized as the cities that I saw in Costa Rica.

In every city we were in I noticed that the people will sit within the park and just hang out with friends and family for hours. The host family that I stayed with lived a block or two from the Central Park, so the other students and I within the house went to the park one night and was able to see the night life. It was amazing to see how many people are still out and relaxing in the park at night. The stores close early, but the people just hang out, and it was nice to see the difference between the people in Costa Rica and the US. Because even in the summer in the US you don’t see people just hanging out in the park at nine at night, whereas the park was pretty full in Alajuela.
When we were in Nicaragua, it was very similar in the park, the people just hung out all day and it was a nice change to see. One night Pablo, and the four of us in the house went to see the city lights, and it was just amazing. From the spot we were at we were able to see the city lights of 3 cities; San Jose, Alajuela and one other city. It was a beautiful view, and I was so glad that we were able to see it as a house experience. The traffic in the city is insane, the lines are long and I feel the rules of the road don’t exist. Sometimes I felt like it took a while to get from one place to the other because of the traffic lines, it’s like rush hour where I’m from.
