Chalk one up for technology! Utilizing a technique called “Macro Scanning X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry” scientists have been able to confirm a new work by Vincent Van Gogh! This is a great example of high-culture meeting high-technology. People in the science, math, and technology fields can contribute to science and art anywhere in the world!
“Still life with roses and field flowers” – Van Gogh’s unsigned work, now recently rediscovered with … science!
The process confirmed a technique used by many starving artists where canvases of failed projects are reused to paint new pieces. Artistic recycling at its best!
The technique was used to detect conclusive evidence about its authorship. First, they were able to obtain detailed analysis of wrestlers’ brushwork and palette, which was unequivocally the same as the ones used in other Van Gogh paintings at the Antwerp Academy. The analysis of the flowers themselves led to a similar conclusion, despite their unusual size and composition. -Gizmodo
The painting will be in permanent display at the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands, along side other important works from VanGogh.
