This is the second folium posting we’ve made about Apple Stores around the world, but Apple always shows great initiative in tuning their image to the cultures around them. The phrase “know your consumer” is tossed around a lot in business, but here is the perfect example of how Apple transforms this cliché into a cultural advantage.

This is the construction barrier for the new Apple Store in Barcelona, Cataluña, Spain. While most stores would put up concrete or plywood barriers, Apple took the idea one step further. Barcelona is home to one of the greatest architects of our age, Antoní Gaudí. Have you ever heard the term “gaudy” jewelry or furniture? This is because Gaudí was known for a style of architecture that features “excessive ornamentation”. Lots and lots of decorations, and no space untouched or unembellished.

The great cathedral of Barcelona, “La Sagrada Familia“, is Gaudí’s magnum opus. Check it out here in Google Street View.

Here the point. Apple took the time to learn about Gaudí, researched his style, and made it their own. Now the Apple Store embodies the style that defines every man woman and child in Barcelona. Apple understands who their customers are, and charged their artists to respond. This is international marketing at its finest. Bravo Apple.
